If you cannot tell which channel sent a visitor, you cannot tell which channel is working. UTM parameters solve that, and our free utm builder assembles them correctly in a few seconds.
Source, medium, and campaign are the three that matter, and analytics needs all three together to attribute a visit properly — leave one out and the traffic tends to land in 'direct' or 'other', which tells you nothing. The tool flags that while you build. Term and content are optional: content in particular is what lets you tell a header button from a footer link when both point at the same page.
One small feature prevents a disproportionate amount of mess: forcing lowercase and replacing spaces with underscores. Analytics platforms treat 'Email' and 'email' as two distinct sources, so a campaign tagged inconsistently across a team gets split across multiple rows in every report and the numbers stop adding up. Normalising at the point of creation is the only reliable fix.
The URL is validated as you type, and you get a warning if the link already carries UTM parameters that would be overwritten. Everything happens in your browser, so unlaunched campaign names never leave your device. Pair it with the QR Code Generator for print and offline campaigns, or the URL Encoder if you need to encode the result further.
